The Chess program at Burnside Primary School continues to be strongly supported by our school community and provides another extra-curricular activity for our students.
‘Chess School SA’ of Adelaide tutors come into our school on Wednesday afternoons from 3.20 – 4.20pm to provide coaching and practice to all levels of players. Numbers are capped at approximately 50 students in term 2, and children are organised into advanced and novice groups. These students have been selected by the chess coaches using criteria including age, attitude, behaviour and experience, and been notified via email.
Children not selected for this group are invited to attend a ‘Chess is fun’ session in the library every Friday at lunchtime. This will give them the opportunity to practise their skills and as vacancies arise in the Wednesday afternoon group, children who have registered on the waiting list will be considered. There is no charge for ‘Chess is Fun’ and children are encouraged to come to the library each Friday at lunchtime.
If your child(ren) is interested in attending Wednesday afternoon chess but hasn’t been placed in the nominated group at this stage, please complete the form below and they will be placed on the waiting list. You will be contacted should a place become available. Numbers and spaces will be reviewed again at the end of the term.
If you require further information or have any questions please contact the front office.
